Currently I have the following Wifi only installation (all using the same SSID as per my ISP's recommentations):

Router/AP --- Wifi Extender 1 --- Wifi Extender 2

If I connect to the Router or to the Wifi Extender 1, my phone connects easily/fast. Moving from one to the other I haven't noticed problems.

However, when moving to a place that would force me to only be in range of Wifi Extender 2 everything changes:

  • the phone takes about 5 minutes and 10 attempts to get an IP

  • after that, if I disconnect the wifi in the phone, and re-connect it, it will connect immediately

  • getting back in the Router and/or Wifi Extender 1's range, will re trigger the problem (when I go back to Wifi Extender 2 only range)

This was also happening with someone else's tablet.

Today, I also tested with my laptop and it was fast to reconnect to no matter where I moved to and to which node I was connected to.

HW (if relevant):

  • Wifi Extenders: both are Arris VAP4300

  • My phone: Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 (seems "recent", wifi up to AC)

  • Tablet: no clue and possibly cannot get that info anymore

  • Laptop: "old" 2010(?) HP with Wifi N, with Windows 10

So, what's up with all this? Is Android messing things up here? Any clues?
