Can't understand if Matlab Runtime was installed or not?
The output on running mcrversion [in matlabr 2017a]:
>> mcrversion
To use 'mcrversion', at least one of the following products must be both licensed and installed:
MATLAB Compiler
MATLAB Compiler SDK
>> [major, minor] = mcrversion;
To use 'mcrversion', at least one of the following products must be both licensed and installed:

I installed a program which claims to install MCR as part of its own installation. How do I confirm if i have MCR. Weirdly, the system I use already has matlabr 2017a.

Check with the vendor whenever it does? Go over the installation instructions again? Actually tell us what you installed that should install MCR? Confirm that you have properly licensed the products. What's weird about Matlab 2017a being installed?

I installed the program USPEX ([link] (uspex-team.org/en/uspex/overview)). I followed the installation instructions properly. By weirdly I meant MCR exists so that you don't need to have the full license.
