How do I enable nested virtualization centos 7

0

I have a AMD processor, I enabled SVM in the BIOS and I'm using VMWare Workstation Pro 14, and my host is Centos 7.6 configured as a Server with GUI, UEFI Boot. I'm having problems creating a nested Virtual Machine.

[root@oadese ~]# uname -r
3.10.0-957.1.3.el7.x86_64

I get this error when trying to add a module to the Kernel:

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'kvm_amd': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter

And when I do dmesg, this error

[ 450.010100] kvm_amd: Unknown parameter 'enable_shadow_vmcs'

How can I fix this error, so I can enable virtualization?

I've edited this file: /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-nested.conf and removed options kvm_amd enable_shadow_vmcs=1 and rebooted and the problem still persists.

[root@oadese ~]# modprobe -r kvm_amd

[root@oadese ~]# modprobe -a kvm_amd
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'kvm_amd': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

  • Only certain VMWare products support nested virtualization, and those products that do, must have the virtual machine configured to do so. So can you provide more information about the virtual machine configuration and specific which VMWare product you are using specifically? Instead of submitting a comment be sure you edit your question and provide the relevant information necessary to answer your question.
