Cameras / Video recorders and web cams with open API
I would like to build a video motion sensor. Basically, it would be a sophisticated baby monitor where I could collect streaming video and use image processing and machine learning techniques to identify moving objects (babies?) within the video. I am not interested in fancy cloud connected solutions like DropCam (i.e. products with absurd licensing conditions and never updated firmware).
To do this, I need a camera / webcam that has an open API that is well documented and that I can easily access.
Question:
What video recorders / webcams provide a documented (and supported) open API? It would be nice if I could both use the API for data collection and command / control. It would be even nicer if it was in Python (or C/C++).
