4tb SSHD crashers mid-use, suddenly shows the following issues

0

My 4tb Seagate SSHD crashed in the middle of a game last night and now my PC says the disk is "Unknown" and "Not initialized". Attempting to initialize it as a GPT drive (which is the partitioning it was previously using) only results in an error stating that the disk is not convertible because the size is less than minimum required size for GPT disks. When I ran two separate recovery tools, they both detected the drive but only read it as an 855MB disk, half of which was full. I was able to recover partition data but I dont' seem to be able to do anything with it. Below is a screenshot of what's contained in the folder. This drive is not my boot drive.

You drive is failed or currently failing. If the data on it is valuable you should pursue data recovery right away. If the data is unimportant the drive should be disposed of.

  • So, I have attempted to recover the data and all I can recover is what is shown in the screenshot. I used it as a backup for my external drive where I store movies and such, as well as containing about 90% of my (rather large) game library. Nothing on it is irreplaceable however....4tb is a lot of data, and Ideally I would prefer to recover it.

  • If your own data recovery attempts have only produced these results, your only other option is for professional data recovery, which tends to be expensive.

  • Oof. Yeah my paid recovery tools failed so maybe it's time to just cut my losses and get a new drive. Can't wait till I have the money for a proper raid 5 setup, it can still fail but at least it'll have to fail a lot harder to result in a total loss.
