Why does TV programming recorded in stereo on HP Win XP Media Center play in mono on HP Win 7 Media Center?

0

I recently started recording TV on my HP Win XP Media Center desktop computer. The audio is recorded in stereo but when played on HP Win 7 Media Center laptop the audio plays in mono only. Same thing happens when I use the Media player to play the movie. Any suggested fix.

In which format is the recorded file? Is the stereo still lost when playing with other software such as VLC?

  • The recorded file is in dvr.ms format. Stereo is still lost when playing with VLC.

  • Does it exist when played on XP?

  • yes it does. I copied the movies to my Toshiba portable hard drive and tried to play on the Windows 7 laptop from there and it is only in mono. Picture quality is downgraded when I connect the Win 7 laptop to the TV via an HDMI cable.
