Laravel w/XAMPP on Ubuntu 18.04, how to swtich from built-in PHP server to the Apache server that is running

0

I'm just starting the basic tasks on the offical site here: basic tasks

I followed these directions to try to integrate Laravel with XAMPP: how to install Laravel with XAMPP

But it didn't work. I'm still running my toy app on the built-in PHP server, when I try to access laravel.home, I get

Object not found!
The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 404
laravel.home
Apache/2.4.37 (Unix) OpenSSL/1.0.2q PHP/7.3.0 mod_perl/2.0.8-dev Perl/v5.16.3

and when I access authproject.localhost, I get the XAMPP console and can click to get to PHPMyAdmin.

I can confirm that the XAMPP console shows that Mysql, ProFTPD and Apache are all running (3 green lights).

I did one migration that showed up in PHPMyAdmin so I think it is somewhat integrated but I still want to switch over to the Apache server for a full integration of Laravel with XAMPP. Also I can shut down the built-in PHP server and have one less terminal window open on my desktop (even if I used tmux, it's nicer to have one less pane to worry about).

Does anyone know what is wrong with the instructions I followed or what I need to do from here?
