ejabberd package 18.12.1 on Raspbian not runnable

0

I want to set up an XMPP-Server on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ and went for ejabberd. They provide a complete package for a range of different hardware and operating systems, including the Pi and only require glibc 2.17 or newer.
(screenshot of ejabberd download site)

Newest Raspbian comes with glibc 2.24.

root@raspberrypi1:/opt/ejabberd-18.12.1/bin# ldd --version
ldd (Debian GLIBC 2.24-11+deb9u3) 2.24

The installation of the .run-file finished without errors

root@raspberrypi1:/opt# ./ejabberd-18.12.1-linux-armhf.run
installing ejabberd-18.12.1...
* Configure ejabberd installation
* Set default config in conf/ejabberd.yml
* Terminate ejabberd installation

Done

but starting the server throws me this error:

root@raspberrypi1:/opt/ejabberd-18.12.1/bin# ./ejabberdctl start
/opt/ejabberd-18.12.1/bin/epmd: /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.28' not found (required by /opt/ejabberd-18.12.1/bin/epmd)

How can I make it work? There is no newer version of glibc in the Raspbian repositories.

Interesting sidenote:
I tested the .deb-package on a regular Debian system (also glibc 2.24) and everything worked. Seems like only the Pi package requires the non-available library.

If this is the wrong StackExchange site, please point me towards the right one =)

Many thanks for your help!
