How do I use a 4tb External Storage on windows 10

-1

All my External HD up to now were up to 2Tb of space, and recently I decided to switch to a 4TB since my old ones are almost full. I mainly use them to store all my file from documents to videos, since I keep using different PC in my day.

I was holding myself till now from buying a 4Tb because I was told that Windows does not recognize HDs that are above 2Tb. I want to know if that is true and if I should do something to allow my PC to run 4Tb external HDs.

My Windows 10 is 64 bits

TL;DR
Do windows accept 4Tb external HDs? If not, how do I make it work?

  • Please clarify your specific problem or add additional details to highlight exactly what you need. As it's currently written, it’s hard to tell exactly what you're asking. The only reason Windows would not support a 4 TB HDD is if you used MVR instead of GPT. Otherwise it’s plug and play.

  • I was told the windows did not accept more than 2Tb Hds, I want to clarify that to see if is true or not. and I was direct about my question on the TL;DR

  • You were told incorrect information. Windows absolutely supports HDDs larger than 2 TB provided they are GPT.
