Windows 10 VPN connected, No internet through client

0

So I am trying to set up a VPN using a computer in another location to access region locked content. I have set up a PPTP connection through another computer that works successfully. I can connect to the server. However, After connecting to the server, the client machine loses access to the internet. Both the server and the client are Windows 10.

I have tried ticking the box in the adapter settings that says "Use default gateway on remote network".
Network adapter settings

I am sure it is an error on the server because I had a friend of mine setup a VPN the exact same way that I set up the one that isn't working and I could connect to his and use the internet. And when I would check my IP address, the IP came up as being from his location, which is the entire point of this.

I have played around with the router firewall settings to no avail. I am not really sure how to troubleshoot exactly where the connection is not getting through. On the client machine, all I have really done is determined that it is not a DNS issue. I cannot ping 8.8.8.8 (Google). I can however ping my client's gateway, but I can not ping the server's gateway. Beyond that, I am not sure how else to troubleshoot it. Hope to receive some help. Thanks.

Another thing I tried that worked was this

PS C: > Set-VpnConnection -Name "YOURVPN" -SplitTunneling $True -PassThru

Which did allow me to use the internet on the client machine. However, it was routing data through my network, instead of the VPN. Which is not something that I want to do with this VPN.

I realize it would be easier to just pay for a VPN service but unfortunately the content I am trying to access has blacklisted the two VPN services that I have tried. I assume a lot of people try to use those services which is what gets them blacklisted.

  • What is the “server” OS? How did you configure the server?

  • Both machines are windows 10. And I configured it using the windows 10 wizard for VPNs. If you go to settings and then Network, there's a tab for VPN. Similar to here hide.me/en/vpnsetup/windows10/pptp

  • Both machines are windows 10. And I configured it using the windows 10 wizard for VPNs. If you go to settings and then Network, there's a tab for VPN. Similar to here hide.me/en/vpnsetup/windows10/pptp
