HDMI Channel limit error

I have a MSI GTX 1080 TI connected to a brand new LG Thinq TV to a older Yamaha RX V2095 A/V Receiver via HDMI 1.4 with Ethernet (to tv) and Optical Digital Audio cable to the Yamaha RX Receiver (it does not have hdmi). The Receiver supports up to 5.1 surround, however when I try going directly from my desktop via Optical to the receiver (Realtek, most recent drivers) or through the TV my computer only allows me to select stereo (2 channel). I have scanned for hardware changes in device manager, I have updated all drivers, but I can not find a way to enable more audio channels.

Welcome to Superuser. Your question unnecessarily difficult to understand. It would be helpful to structure your question into separate paragraphs which for example describe the problem, the background information and the actual question separately.
