router client table drops my hostname after some time
my router recognises my device hostname when I restart the device or the router. It appears on the routers client list. The router uses DHCP.
After a while the hostname of my device disappears from the routers table, and becomes 'unknown device' with a mac address.
I also have a Grandstream voip adapter on my home network, its hostname appears on the router and is never 'unknown device'.
Question 1 how can I stop the router dropping my device hostname?
Question 2 how does the Grandstream voip adapter accomplish this?
Many thanks to anyone who can help me solve this conundrum.
networking dns dhcp dhcp-server

What is the “device?” You’ve basically answered your own question. It is not the router with the problem. It is the “device.” You might be able to fix the issue by changing the DHCP lease time on the router to something shorter or longer. But without more information and troubleshooting this is all guesswork.
