Perl compilation on Mac-OS

0

I have ActivePerl-5.12 and Perl Dev Kit 9.1.1

When I tried to compile my perl source, I am getting the following error

/opt/pdk/bin/perlapp --force --perl /opt/ActivePerl-5.12/bin/perl-static --norunlib --env VERSION=1.9.11.0 --env RELEASE=8979 --env STATE= --target macosx-universal-32 --lib /opt/ActivePerl-5.12/site/lib --add "Date::Manip::" --add "Date::Manip::Offset::" --add "Date::Manip::TZ::" --add "Date::Manip::Lang::" --add Net::SSLeay --add IO::Socket::SSL --add INI::Section --lib lib --exe bin/ctf src/ctf.pl
Access to ActivePerl-5.12.4.1205-darwin-9.8.0-294981.tar.gz
requires an ActivePerl Business Edition license to be installed.

Please visit http://www.activestate.com/business-edition to learn more
about the ActivePerl Business Edition offering.
make: *** [bin/ctf] Error 2

Please throw some light here.

  • Isn't that a paid product, i.e. you can ask ActiveState for support? Also, I've heard people report success using Homebrew to install Perl on Mac OS X. Although it's been quite a while, I also recall successfully using MacPorts.

  • You say that you "have" ActivePerl and PDK. I assume that means you downloaded the free/community ActivePerl and PDK. However, certain uses of ActivePerl require a Business Edition license, and it sounds like certain actual commands (perlapp) in the PDK require it too.
