Multiple screen order on windows

0

On Windows, screens are numbered. For some bizarre reason, the numbers can change as you switch on more screens. My primary screen is number 1 until I switch on my secondary screen at which point that one becomes number 1 and the primary one becomes number 2.

Since multi-screen-aware software has not much to go by save those numbers, it goes without saying that this is very confusing to such software and you often end up with having some windows on the wrong screen.

Even without such software I occasionally see windows open up on the secondary screen even though I never want that.

So Windows being broken in that regard I would think the next best thing is to make sure my primary screen is number 1 regardless of whether I switched on the other.

Switching the cables is one option, but they don't use the same plugs so that's inconvenient.

Is there another way? Or do I really need to go for adapters?
