Main PC finally died, have to convert my media server (made from parts) to a decent (no gaming) PC. I know it needs a better CPU, anything else I need to do?

  • Mobo - Gigabyte H97-D3H-CF ver 1.0

  • CPU - i3-4370 (thinking i5-4690, it only supports up to Gen 5 from what I'm reading)

  • Ram - 8Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 (2x4Gb)

  • video - Nvidia GeForce GT-610 (PNY)

  • Boot drive is an AData SP600 (now), w/ 1Tb Data drive

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "Questions seeking for hardware shopping recommendations are off-topic because they are often relevant only to the question author at the time the question was asked and tend to become obsolete quickly. Instead of asking what to buy, try asking how to find out what suits your needs." – Daniel B, JakeGould, Mokubai

If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

  • Your specs seem fine too me. Why are you asking?

  • There is no way we can tell whether or not that PC does or does not suit your needs, only you can know. It doesn't look that bad for light stuff and web browsing. Rather than asking for opinions actually tell us what is wrong with it currently and we might be able to tell you what you can do to fix it.
