Problems getting virtualhost to work using Varnish as standlone front-end and a remote Apache backend server

I have 2 servers:

Frontend consists of:

  • Varnish

  • Apache2 IP

  • xxx.xxx.xxx.98

    Default backend definition. Set this to point to your content server.
    backend default {
    .host = "xxx.xxx.xxx.21";
    .port = "8080";
    }

Backend Server consists of:

  • IP xxx.xxx.xxx.21

  • Apache 2 and a virtualhost (mysite.com) using Letsencrypt SSL

  • The mysite.com DNS A-record points to the Varnish server -
    xxx.xxx.xxx.98.

Traffic is correctly sent from the Varnish server to the backend server, but its not displaying the virtualhost site, only the webroot page at /var/www/html/.

What am I doing wrong?
